Points vary by age band; specialized/technical and business management also apply a 3,000,000 JPY minimum

Key points

  • ・Income means one year of remuneration expected from the main receiving organization, bonuses included.
  • ・Expected overtime is excluded. Commuting, dependent and housing allowances are generally excluded as reimbursement of actual costs.
  • ・For a transfer from overseas, pay from the original organization can be counted.
  • ・Income points are tied to age: the same salary scores differently in different age bands.

What does not stack

  • ⚠️This is the one item other points cannot fix. Specialized/technical and business management require at least 3,000,000 JPY per year; below that, recognition is refused even if the total exceeds 70 points (MOJ Q&A, item 12).
  • ⚠️Academic research has no minimum income requirement.
