10 points

This page is our own reading of the rules

The text below was written by this site from material published by the Ministry of Justice. It is not the official text, and it may contain errors or lag behind the latest notification. Key points

  • ・Earning a degree at a Japanese higher education institution adds 10 points.
  • ・This is separate from the education score itself. Education is counted from your highest degree; this is an additional 10 points on top.
  • ・The awarding institution must be a Japanese one. Overseas branch campuses and similar cases are decided by the Ministry of Justice.

What does not stack

  • ⚠️Mutually exclusive with N2. A Japanese degree already implies the language ability, so the N2 bonus is not counted again.
  • ⚠️Mutually exclusive with the designated training; the later selection wins.
  • ⚠️N1 is not restricted this way — a Japanese degree and N1 stack for 25 points combined.
  • ⚠️Stacks with the designated-university bonus. If your Japanese institution is also on the designated list, both count for 10 points each.
